The 17th Annual International Society of Acrylic Painters Open International Exhibition will take place July 31 through Aug. 27 at The Showroom Gallery inside Studios on the Park, with a reception and awards show slated for Saturday, Aug. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. Artists from across the region and beyond will display their unique works for the Paso Robles Art Association juried show.
“The International Society of Acrylic Painters is an international organization, so we will have local artists as well as many from out of the area,” said Paso Robles Art Association Publicity Director Rod Payor.
Juror Linda Doll said it has been a difficult task judging the high-quality work.
“I believe it is a remarkable, unified exhibition representing the wide range of excellent work submitted and the vast variety of styles,” Doll said. “I was responsive to design, technique, style and subject matter, but I tried to be equally sensitive to content and concept. I believe this is an excellent and diverse exhibit with paintings that are imaginative and innovative and depict the diversity of the entrants in subject and style.”
Local Artists selected for the show include Patricia Cairns, WB Eckert, Page Graeber and Mari O'Brien. The exhibition is open to artist 18 years and older working in the acrylic medium on any surface. Cash and materials of not less than $8,000 will be awarded. A public reception is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 2.
Studios on the Park artist, former PRAA president and exhibition coordinator Janice Pluma is also showing her work.
“This will mark the third year’s we’ve had the show in Paso Robles; they previously had it in Santa Cruz,” Pluma said. “The paintings are now arriving from all over the country.”
Pluma said international artists due face a barrier due to the high cost of shipping. However, there are entries from Malaysia and England.
A total of 59 entries will hang, according to the artist.
“People will see a lot more variety than you would normally see at a local show,” Pluma said.
