It’s a sad but inevitable fact (probably) that professional artists must walk a fine line between creating work that expresses their purest passions and churning out pieces the public will actually buy, because even starving artists have to eat sometimes, choking on their cups o’ noodles as jurors and monocle-wearing art collectors walk right past their magnum opuses—opusi?—to plop down dough for second-rate work. The “Personal Picks” exhibit at Studios on the Park in Paso Robles lets artists bypass the critics and select their own favorite pieces for display. See their choices through May 20, and discuss their reasoning at an artists’ reception on May 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. during First Saturdays: Wine and the Arts.
