The Calling: Drawings, Paints, and Prints by Javier Manrique

January 27 - March 1, 2020
Atrium Gallery

Javier Manrique: The Calling – During February 2020, Studios on the Park is pleased and proud to welcome to our Atrium Gallery San Francisco-based Mexican artist Javier Manrique. Presented under the show title, “The Calling,” Manrique’s collection includes both recent and retrospective works in multiple mediums covering more than a quarter century of creative production. Manrique is an internationally recognized artist whose broad range of creative motifs is striking and impressive. Over recent years, he has mounted multiple impressive international shows in both Mexico and the United States under titles like “Symbols and Dreams,” “Tangible Abstractions,” and “Sublime Spaces.” The present show features select works from these and other past successful exhibitions, as well as newer works. A recurring theme of Manrique’s oeuvre is the human condition and the individual’s relationship to society and self. The color, form, and texture of his works are at once provocative and healing. In each aspect of his creative pursuit, Manrique reveals a sensitivity, insight, and poignancy that is too often lost in our increasingly hurried and impersonal contemporary culture.
