For three years, Venice photographer E. F. Kitchen visited the events staged by the Society of Creative Anachronism, a North American role-playing organization whose members assume the personas of imaginary knights and engage in mock hand-to-hand combat. Ms. Kitchen photographed the armored participants, using an archaic large format film camera. She makes prints from her negatives on platinum sensitized photo paper, a process from the 19th century. The "retro" result suggests what might happen if the famed Civil War photographer Matthew Brady was transported in time to the military camps of Medieval Europe. Organized by the Central California Museum of Art in collaboration with Studios on the Park.
