Spirit Dolls

March 3 - 27, 2011
Atrium Gallery

Participants from The Wellness Community of Paso Robles created the uniquely handcrafted, one-of-a-kind dolls in this collection.

Fashioned from a variety of items such as gathered objects, natural materials, recycled textiles, and treasured possessions, the dolls can be for imagination, inspiration, and decoration. They can also represent an event in one's life. Spirit Doll maker, Robin Atkins states, "When you make a spirit doll, whether for yourself or as a gift, the idea is to be mindful, perhaps even prayerful, of her purpose. As you sew her seams and embellish her with carefully chosen beads, you are imbuing her with vitality and strength for her intended mission. That's the real difference between a Spirit Doll and any other doll."

These dolls are constructed with a flexible wire frame that is wrapped and shaped with cotton batting, then wrapped again with layers of cotton muslin. The dolls are then decorated, inspired by the doll makers' wonderful imagination.
