Studios Featured Resident Artist, Gisele Thompson, will have her acrylic paintings on exhibit in our Front Window throughout the month of June.
Moving west after growing up in NH, Gisele earned a BFA in illustration at Cal State Long Beach. After spending years working as a graphic designer and illustrator, painting still was her passion and became her voice. She received an MA in painting at Cal State Fullerton and from figurative works to abstraction, she continued to experiment with paint and began the journey that continues today. Now living full-time in the beauty of the Central Coast, she explores the landscape from the ocean to mountains taking reference photos of scenes that inspire and capture the spirit of California. Working mostly in her studio with acrylic paint, she starts with a loose underpainting, layering to build up rich color and textural finish with a contemporary impressionist style.
“My newest work is an exploration in plein air painting of the local area. My hope is to experience the environment, sounds, smells, wind and sun as I paint, and to move from working from only photos in my studio to outdoors which could lead me to create a landscape that may become more unique to me. Enjoy.”
Gisele is a member of SLOPE, San Luis Painters for the Environment.
