An exhibition of the new paintings and photographic arts of Paso Robles artist and photographer, WB Eckert, themed on the elegant Calla Lily.
What is a Rorschach Garden?
Rorschach Test – A series of inkblot images intended to evoke associations that may reveal something about ourselves that might otherwise remain hidden in our subconscious.
Garden - A pleasant place to wander among flowers and nature where we can relax and be alone with our thoughts and musings.
Things that appear to be one thing but are really another – The Calla Lily, an abundant flower, is striking and elegant, but just like ourselves, it is not what it appears at first to be. It seems simple and elegant, yet on closer inspection it is wonderfully complex in its beauty and construction. What we perceive as a stamen is actually the flower and what we think of as the flower (the beautiful white bloom) is a specialized leaf. This beautiful flower is as toxic to humans and animals as it is beautiful to look at. Most poisonous plants and insects are unattractive and garish, but the Calla Lily is stunning in its elegance and grace.
WB Eckert’s Rorschach Garden is a place for you wander and enjoy. Where the images may at first appear to be one thing but may actually be another. Wander through his garden and enjoy what you think you see. Like the secrets of the Calla, your own reactions and delight may surprise you.
The opening reception will be held as part of First Saturday: Wine & The Arts on the evening of Saturday, September 3, 2011 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Fine wine will be poured by Sculpterra Winery with the enchanting music by MOTM.
A fine art print of one of WB Eckert’s lilies will be given away the night of the reception and another at the end of his show.
