This is a hands-on series of 6 classes. We will be drawing, evaluating and discussing the problems involved, and looking at solutions to help us get the results we are looking for, and to hopefully come to understand the important relationship between observation and drawing practice. Beginning artists and all levels of experience are welcome.
- July 12: Drawing the Line: Intro and exercises highlighting the importance of precision and relationships of line, the basic mark of drawing.
- July 19: Seeing and Drawing What We See: Understanding what we see and simplifying the subject with basic shapes.
- July 26: Shapes In Space: Drawing shapes to show distance and the conventions we use to make it convincing to the eye.
- Aug 2: The 3rd Dimension: Drawing basic three dimensional shapes and an introduction to basic perspective.
- Aug 9: Light And Shadow: Using shading to show the effects of light on objects and to suggest distance.
- Aug 16: Putting It All Together: Combining all these elements to draw a convincing image from real life observation or from the imagination.
Supplies needed: 3 or 4 number 4B or number 6B pencils, a kneaded eraser, 11x14” drawing pad (or larger if preferred), a stiff drawing board larger than 11x14 for a backing to draw on.
