More than any single art movement ever before, Contemporary Art allows for diversity in style, medium, and concept. Today’s young artists and the artists young at heart aren’t part of a school of art that focuses on one style of work, like Impressionism or Cubism. They are creating pieces that expand the way we think about the world around us. It is a school of ideas. Some work focuses on abstraction and uses shape, color, and form to evoke a feeling from the viewer. Another artist may create, taken at face value, absurdist images that lampoon daily life. Abstraction helps us to discuss difficult truths about today and present possibilities for the future. The great thing is it’s all open for interpretation.
