Galaxy Juried Art Exhibit Honor!

The winners of the 12th Annual Galaxy Juried Art Exhibit at the Paso Robles City Library were announced Friday night and I'm thrilled to have received the second place prize for my pastel, Magnificent Oak. What an honor to be selected among so many talented Central Coast artists! The exhibition is on display through the end of the month.

I'm thrilled to report that my painting, "Into the Light," received The Glenna Hartmann Best in Show Award at the Glenna Hartmann Invitational in Santa Barbara, California.

Jean Stern, Executive Director of the Irvine Museum in Irvine, California and a recognized authority on California Impressionism, was juror for the exhibition.

I am thrilled to have received the Glenna Hartmann award. I felt fortunate to have known Glenna. Our paths first crossed in the Carrisa Plains in the early 90’s while painting. In the the years following we had the opportunity to participate in various paint-outs and exhibitions. The last time we painted and exhibited together we were painting for the 2007 Heritage Exhibition.

Mr. Pugsley posed for his portrait last Sunday. He sat patiently while Sarah worked on that mix of yellows, whites and umbers to capture his life size pug attitude.

I'm honored to be participating in the 2010 Glenna Hartmann Invitational Fine Art Exhibition & Sale. Glenna Hartmann (1948-2008) was a well-known artist, loved by everyone who knew her. This exhibit of 100 new works by 60 California artists has been organized in her honor.

Glenna was a friend and fellow artist. I met Glenna while painting in the Carrizo Plains many years ago. Our paths continued to bring us together in exhibitions over the years and we had the opportunity to paint and show together and enjoy the time we spent together. Honoring Glenna is twofold, I get to say one last time, "Glenna I admire you for all you have done, and I am so honored to have known you." All of the artists will be supporting two of Glenna's cherished non-profits, The Nature Conservancy and Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. By being part of this exhibition I join my fellow artists in saluting Glenna Hartmann.

"This event is one of the finest art exhibitions created on the West Coast and begins with an invite-only reception with the artists on Friday, February 19. Reception tickets are $50/person, and each ticket includes an admission pass for Saturday and Sunday,

Glenna Hartmann Invitational Fine Art Exhibition & Sale will be held in the picturesque seaside community of Santa Barbara at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History on Saturday and Sunday, February 20 and 21, 2010."

Hi Folks!

I'm so excited that my fiber art piece "98% effective (when used consistently and correctly)" is featured in the group fibers show "pocket" at the Beet Gallery in Portland. The 9.5 x 7.5 inches cotton thread and felt appliqué on cotton fabric is being used in their advertising and on their website's exhibit page announcement!

Studios on the Park was thrilled to be the recipient of the Creative Award for holiday decorations. I accepted the award from the Main Street Association on behalf of the many tireless volunteers who helped to transform our front windows into a festive wonderland of auto parts and art!

Smudge, the Studios mascot, continues to grow and flourish here with her Studios family. Yesterday, she made her usual rounds with Thomson Peck and spent some quality time in the studio of Sarah Winkler and Peg Grady.

Be sure to stop in and say "hi"!

Hi Everyone!

I'm so excited to be offering my first workshop at Studios on the Park. I'll be teaching an Oil Stick Workshop Weekend on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15.

Here's the description of the workshop. Hope to see you there!

Experience a new medium, oil paint sticks, color you hold in your hand and mix right on your artwork. There are no tubes to open, no palette to clean and oil sticks dry in 24 hours. Create with easy to use, non-toxic oil sticks, that do not fade.

Sally Tippman has been painting with oil sticks for 20 years and will share her knowledge with beginners and experienced artists. Sally has studied at Chouinard, The Art Students League and earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University in New York City.

The cost of the 2 day workshop is $275 and includes a professional set of 12 Shiva Oil PaintStiks for participants to keep, paper will also be provided. Bring drawing materials.

Morning coffee, tea and snacks will be provided.

Reserve your space in the workshop by sending a check payable to Sally Tippman
PO Box 1753 Atascadero, CA 93423

For more information, call 805 466-6278 or go to www.SallyTippman.com

Thanks to all who came out to Sarah Winkler's welcome reception. Great art, great food, and great friends! Welcome Sarah!

Over the past month, Smudge has been lucky enough to have plenty of friends and family visit her at Studios and she encourages you to do the same!

For our inaugural Halloween here at Studios on the Park, we are planning a party for the dogs, art dogs to be exact! In a one day breach of our House Rules, all artists will be able to bring their dogs to work but with one condition -- they must be in costume! Here is our own Sarah Winkler and her main man Pugsly giving their dracula ensembles a whirl. Happy Halloween to all!

*Please note: Studios will close at 4 PM on Halloween in order to participate fully in the downtown festivities. We've been told to expect more than 4,000 trick-or-treaters!

I'm pleased to report that my large watercolor, "Moonstone," won two awards in the thirty-second annual Aqueous USA 2009 National Exhibit: the Kentucky Watercolor Society/Gallery Street Cash Award and the Maker's Mark Purchase Award. What honors!
