Images tell stories and Joyce Bauerle is influenced by stories such as myths, fairy tales, the daily newspapers and the lives of individuals. For Joyce, some images are amusing and fun, some respond to the darker aspects of who we are or the trouble we have given this planet. She finds it both pleasing and at times distressing to watch the development of a print whether it is done in relief or intaglio. But, Joyce says, "the process is always appreciated and is more spontaneous than you would think." At this time the making of relief prints using linoleum with a reduction process and the overlaying of inks is of great interest to Joyce.
