Harold Spencer has been engaged with art for many years-- as an artist, teacher, and art historian-- for, he says, "no more profound a reason than a simple affair of the heart." For Harold, art is so intertwined with the stuff of his life that he would have to "unravel the whole thing to get at the real core of it." As Harold explains, "Even as I record the surface appearance of the natural world it seems only a metaphor for another more elusive reality."
