Meet Deb Lysek, our September featured artist!
"After several years of designing and creating hand painted silk scarves and wearable art, I found my new passion—weaving.
I have always been fascinated by the weaving process but didn’t know how or where to start. After watching numerous videos about hand weaving, I purchased my first loom—a rigid heddle loom—and got started weaving. To my delight, I took to it fairly quickly. But maybe genetics has something to do with it. During an ancestry search I learned that one of my great-grandfathers was a weaver and another was a silk designer.
As I became more confident in my weaving, I was eager to try the multitude of designs in the weaving world. As much as I loved working on my rigid heddle, I knew I had to move on to a multi-shaft loom so I could weave all these wonderful designs. I now work on an 8-shaft table loom here in Studios and an 8-shaft floor loom in my home studio.
I enjoy not only weaving fabric but also using that fabric to construct beautiful garments. Where I had once been mesmerized by the flow and manipulation of silk dyes, I am now equally fascinated by the range of colors, textures and designs that weaving creates. I am very excited and so pleased to be a resident artist at Studios on the Park. I invite you to come in and experience all the wonderful artists here at Studios."
