Curious how amazing prints like these are created? This Saturday, November 9th from 6-8pm, Printmaker David Butz will demonstrate and discuss the inking, wiping and printing of an etched plate using the etching press.

He will be printing “Happy Isles,” an etching with aquatint that was juried into Yosemite Renaissance 31, in 2016. From David’s description of the image: “A study in vivacity. This small Cottonwood is growing in the Merced riverbed at Happy Isles. With its backlit leaves dancing in a light breeze, it positively glowed in front of the shady backdrop. From the pool of water under the large rock, the water cascades down through the rocks to meet the eastern main channel.”

Introducing our November featured artist, Lynn Kishiyama!

Lynn is a vibrant contemporary mixed-media artist. With an unwavering passion for exploring identity, memory, and cultural heritage, her latest exhibition, "Winds of Tradition: A Fan’s Journey," is a joyous celebration of her time in Japan and an ongoing exploration of the captivating blend of art and culture. The fan, a symbol of prosperity, good fortune, and respect in Japanese tradition, plays a central role in this series, reflecting Kishiyama’s deep connection to the culture.

Lynn's lifelong love affair with paper fuels her artistry, incorporating elements from vintage kimonos, fans, enigmatic scrolls, Asian currency, maps, and other charming found objects. Her pieces are a bold, lively, and endlessly thought-provoking tapestry of experiences.

Her work will be featured in the front window during the month of November, and can always be found in her studio.
