Drew Mayerson paints his surroundings including landscapes and cityscapes often relying on his background as a geologist and a natural observer of the environment in which he lives. Drew looks "for ordinary scenes that can be described as muted with a noticeable splash of color or light that draws the viewer into the painting." Oils are his chosen medium, often painted on panel or canvas but sometimes on more exotic substrates like copper, which gives the work a warmer feel. Although Drew enjoys painting plein aire, he sometimes finds that the ever changing light and fast pace detracts from the personal vision that originally drew him into the scene in the first place.
